CASA of Morris and Sussex Counties’ Response to COVID-19

We know that everyone has grave concerns about the Coronavirus pandemic and its potential impact on your health and the health and wellbeing of your family. We all find ourselves in uncharted waters. The wellbeing of our staff, volunteers, and the children and families we serve is our organization’s highest priority.

While this is a time of uncertainty and fear for all of us, it’s likely that our children in foster care are suffering the most. This is a critical time for our children and families who will be facing multiple challenges with children at home, financial hardships, potential illnesses in the home compounded with the severe trauma these children have already experienced. Over the next few weeks and possibly months our CASA volunteers will not be able to have in-person visits with these children and families.

CASA of Morris and Sussex Counties is committed to continuing our advocacy and ensuring children in foster care receive the services and resources they need. Our volunteers will be checking-in with foster parents through weekly phone calls and making FaceTime and Skype visits with the children. During the past two weeks, we have supplied laptop computers to our children to ensure that they are able to participate in online learning. We have been delivering bicycles and helmets, board games, and books to provide activities for the many days children will be out of school. We promise to do our best to continue our advocacy, while also ensuring the safety of CASA of Morris and Sussex Counties’ staff and volunteers.

CASA staff will be working remotely, communicating with volunteers, the court, DCP&P, resource parents, and all stakeholders. Volunteers will continue to prepare reports for the court to provide update on the children’s status and make recommendations for their needs. Most of the court hearings will be monitored telephonically.

The main CASA office phone 973-998-7590 will be checked several times each day; however, you may also reach the staff on their cell phones. Please watch our website for updates on the status of our operations.  Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.
