CASA Salon Cards

Over thirty small businesses in Morris and Sussex Counties participated in a holiday fundraising
event to allow patrons to make a donation and show their support for CASA’s mission. Cards
with the donors’ names and the faces of children were displayed in local businesses to bring
awareness to the plight of abused and neglected children. Aura Salon owner Frank Campanaro, Plaza Barbershop owner Gerry Russo, and Kathryn Joseph Salon owners Kathryn and Joseph Menz spearheaded this CASA holiday fundraiser. Through word of mouth, salons and other local businesses throughout the two counties participated in the event and raised over $2,000 to support CASA advocacy. See pictures from the event in our gallery.

Michele Hubley - Family Reunification Hero

Our own Michele Hubley, of Sparta, was named a Family Reunification Hero by Legal Services of New Jersey! Michele, who has been a CASA for the past four years, was cited for her extraordinary accomplishments advocating for children in the welfare and court system. She accepted the award at an event for the American Bar Association’s Family Reunification Day on June 27th. We are extremely proud that Michele was selected to represent the incredible service that all our CASAs give to the community. See pictures of the event in our gallery or on facebook.

2011 CASA Flyaway-Getaway Raffle Winner!

In addition to selling the most raffle tickets of any New Jersey CASA program (we sold 347 of 960 tickets), one of our own was selected as the winner! So without any further ado,

Congratulations to Tom Curtin, a member of our Board of Trustees! His ticket was randomly picked by a member of the CASA of NJ staff in Trenton on June 28th.

This Flyaway-Getaway Raffle event was a tremendous success for all CASA programs throughout the state. We thank from the bottom of our hearts all those who bought tickets to enter the raffle and our volunteers and staff who worked very hard to sell them.

CASA Connection Breakfast

Our CASA Connection Breakfast was a great success! Among the highlights were an up and coming first grade poet, a pre-k class of future Grammy winning singers, and a mother sharing her story of how a CASA volunteer helped her in adopting her two sons. A truly heartfelt thank you to all those who came to learn about CASA, and of course, our precious volunteers and supporters. Pictures are up on this website and on our facebook page!

Aging Out of Foster Care

More than 400,000 children throughout the United States are currently enrolled within the foster care system. In addition to the trauma that all of these children must deal with while going through the system, many of these minors are young teens who will soon age out of the child welfare system and will lack the life skills and resources to be self-sufficient. We at Court Appointed Special Advocates of Morris and Sussex Counties are working with the Roots & Wings Foundation to show you the scope of how foster care affects the children who go through it.

Please visit the Roots & Wings Foundation of NJ website in order to learn more about how you can help at-risk teens who age out of foster care.
